Childhood time 

Why do the distant days of our childhood and youth seem idyllic now? Perhaps life was not as wonderful as we remember, but that is how we perceive it through today's lens. Drawing from a 'Schopenhauerian' perspective, I believe this perception can be interpreted as follows:

The eyes through which we once viewed the world were those we had at that time. Today, they are different, having evolved throughout our lives. When we were 9 or 13 years old, our perception of reality likely differed from what it is now as we reflect back. At that age, we didn't have the evaluative criteria we possess today. This is understandable, given our immaturity at that time. We also lacked knowledge of the timeline of events along which we would encounter various experiences. 

While our willpower as children was not particularly strong, our innate potential for living and learning was considerably greater than today. In addition to enjoying good health, our few needs were generally met. Beyond school and household duties, occasional annoyances, and punishments for misbehavior, our lives were filled with playful activities — playing, reading books, football, and exploring the world — and everything was a novelty. Major concerns were absent, as parents and family members ensured our well-being.

Last but not least, we find ourselves deeply moved by memories of our childhood because the Parque de Aeronautica - where we lived - allowed us transcend the prosaic boundaries of home, street, and school. The ‘Parque’ was a vast and marvelous physical setting for children to play and fantasize. 

I've just watched the film "The Spirit of the Beehive", directed by Victor Erice. Beyond the symbolism woven into the narrative, I was captivated by sets and photography. Most striking, however, were the eyes of the young actress Ana Torrent and the perspective through which she portrayed the world and everything around her. It evoked memories of childhood for me.
